Insurance Compact

The Interstate Insurance Compact is a collaboration of insurance regulators and legislators that work together to create efficiencies in the insurance product approval process. They aim to streamline the way insurance products are filed, reviewed, and approved, speeding up the process for customers to get access to products in a competitive market. Within Insurance Compact’s website, users can electronically file multiple insurance products across different categories such as life, annuity, disability income, and long-term care through a standardized process that creates an easier and more understandable experience.

In 2022, The Interstate Insurance Compact began working with Gravity Works to provide an overhaul to their current website, with a focus on improving the navigation and implementing overall design enhancements. Insurance Compact takes pride in making the insurance filing process easy and efficient, and wanted their new website to reflect those same priorities for their users.

Large Database Content Migration

As a state-based collaboration, all necessary materials of those 46 states’ insurance policies needed to be readily available. This meant that we needed to build a database for Insurance Compact that could support a vast amount of information. It was critical to ensure that all of the gathered data was able to be seamlessly transitioned from one platform to the next. Therefore one of our primary focuses during the initial development stage was implementing a comprehensive data migration process to Insurance Compact’s new Drupal based site. All web content, files, and information needed for users to make important decisions regarding their insurance needs were stored onto the new CMS platform, giving Insurance Compact the peace of mind knowing that the data they’ve gathered over the years was still safe and sound.

Search-Focused Document Navigation

With the large amount of data and information Insurance Compact has to offer, it can be difficult for users to find the correct policies, procedures, and documentation. To make the process easier, we created a document navigation system that allows users to search Insurance Compact’s database. By simply typing in a keyword, our integrated search engine shows relevant results from Insurance Compact’s site, including news, articles, relevant pages, and matching files. This allows users to have a more efficient and convenient information gathering process, resulting in a more positive user experience.

Resource Filtering

In addition to the integrated search, we created a resource filtering tool that provides site visitors with another way to find and access the documents they’re looking for. When searching for standards documents, users can now filter documents from Insurance Compact’s database to find the exact files they’re looking for without having to sift through tons of file downloads and hyperlinks. Visitors can filter documents by type, such as bylaws and procedures, to the type of rulemaking the document encompasses, and even the current writing status of the document. We worked closely with Insurance Compact to determine the best way to filter information based on their organization’s needs.

Active Work in Progress Tool for Committee Work

Sometimes people visiting Insurance Compact’s website aren’t looking for files to download or information on insurance procedures. Instead, they might want to keep track of developing standards and procedures, and when they might take effect. That is why for each of their committees, we created a “work in progress” tracker to let visitors know if any committee at any given time is working on new procedures and/or processes. When viewing the different committees on the Committees subpage, users will see the current status of any work that particular committee is working on at a given time by seeing the status “Work is in Progress” or “No work is currently in progress.” This prevents users from having to dig deep into the website just to find out if any processes are being made or if nothing is in motion at the moment, which in turn creates a more positive and quick search experience for users looking to stay up-to-date on insurance processes.
