VPLC: Virginia Poverty Law Center

Virginia Poverty Law Center is a non-profit supporting those who find themselves in the position of navigating potential eviction situations. This non-profit focuses on providing legal resources and documents to Virginians through the help of a questionnaire self-help guide and searching for local legal aid in the state of Virginia.

Gravity Works built out an in-depth decision tree tool to help users facing potential eviction navigate to and find specific resources pertaining to their unique situations. This tool provides a series of questions to help visitors find the resources they need to answer their legal questions, find documents to give in court or to their landlord, or even scripts to say when in court. If users are still unsure of their situation, further resources are provided along with a searchable local legal aid database. Users are able to search by county or zip code to find a local legal aid representative to provide further information pertaining to the user’s unique situation. As the majority of these users are using mobile devices and finding answers is time-sensitive, we designed the website with a mobile-first approach along with clear, concise language to further assist users in their effort to fight eviction.
