Northwest Justice Project (NJP) is a not-for-profit organization providing free civil legal services to people across Washington State. Washington Law Help is NJP’s public-facing digital library—a vital resource offering self-help tools, legal guides, and information for people who may not otherwise have access to legal support.
Gravity Works partnered with NJP to rebuild a platform that was easier to navigate, more interactive, and capable of supporting advanced functionality like document automation and real-time feedback—all while ensuring compliance with strict accessibility standards. We rebuilt the site from the ground up, using a decoupled architecture that combined a Next.js front end with a powerful Drupal CMS. We implemented robust features including a form library with multilingual support, advanced site search with autocomplete and spellcheck, and a taxonomy-driven content structure.
Users can generate PDFs from multi-chapter guides, use text-to-speech for accessibility, and complete a triage form that compiles custom legal documents using HotDocs. For editors, we built in Google Analytics summaries, streamlined translation workflows (supporting up to 22 languages), and automated annual content reviews. The new site is WCAG 2.1 AAA-aligned wherever possible, ensuring broad access to critical legal information in Washington State.
